There must be a dozen variations of Phantom - still there seems to be no complete 1929 version

also - only two of the color segments seem to have survived.  As for Alamo - there was a VHS release

of the roadshow version - I just think it plays better than the release version. Sad thing is - they

found an uncut print in Canada, then they rejuvinated it, and transfered it to video. from that point on -

the film deteriorated to a point where it can no longer be used - (a good rejuv will do that - the film

continues to decompose and build up gas - now being encased in plastic, its not pretty). Also -

the transfer was not digital, so when the time came to put it out on DVD; a comparison between

what they could do digitally - and what had been done for analogue tape/LV - and they opt'd to

go with a new transfer - and just leave the film and analogue transfer to perdition.

Subject: Re: [MOPO] LASER DISCS

I rented the Blu-ray of the Phantom and it had three versions of the movie.

I have on SVHS a copy of the 202 minute laser disc Alamo. Some of the scenes are just extended, the birthday scene I don't think is needed.
