Hallo MOPO

Further to a thread in November, it looks like the ability to see the numbers
of "Watchers" on each eBay item is either being trialled again or here to stay.

Does anyone have views on the upside/downside of this.

Are buyers more likely to click that twitchy trigger finger if it's a "Buy It
Now" with 5 Watchers (and perhaps a declined offer or two).

And isn't this kind of system open to abuse?  Couldn't sellers create an
impression that an item is more desirable than it is by watching it from other
accounts (and making declined bids).  Or is that just acceptable salesmanship?

And might it have the opposite effect as well?  - An item comes on eBay and -
over the next few days - doesn't attract any Watchers.  That might put off
someone who had gotten initially excited about the item.

As this develops, new strategies are likely to form:  e.g. buyers might not
"Watch" items formally through the eBay system and will merely set a snipe.

I do think that - what seems at first glance like a small bookkeeping change -
will soon make a radical difference to how we use eBay.

I'm genuinely interested in what people think of this and whether MOPOers feel
it will lead to more sales (which has to be the point).

Hope you all have great weekends.

Neil

Subject: eBay's changes to Watched Items

Hallo MOPO

To slightly extend the Ebay conversation, what do people think of the current
changes to "Watching" re: (1) the trial of publicly showing the numbers of
Watchers on each item page and (2) the constant removal/reinstatement of the
row of "See What Other People Are Watching" items at the bottom of each item
page?

The "See What Other People Are Watching" panel has been very useful to me in
the past!
