The book by du Maurier was pushing the idea that the Second World War had upset
the natural order of the environment so much so that nature through the birds
where striking back at the humankind for revenge.

The love birds caged - fairly symbolic and self explanatory, it’s how we like
to view nature, controlled and passive.

Don’t think he did personally but did he have to? The rebellion at the farm of
chickens who wouldn’t eat the seed would be indication of the birds not wanting
to conform, just like a hunger strike. I think it’s all there in the film.

1) they were sick and tired of the birdfeed they got paid for a days work
2) the subplot was the escape of the two birds into the wild, so they could
repopulate Zimbabwe's forests
3) yes he did, but he did it in code written by the Enigma machine. Enigma's
code breaking abilities are still Top Secret however, so ordinary people cannot
uncode the code that is coded. For further information, try the NSA
