I saw that query (well, promo post disguised as query) about movie posters being "museum worthy" and I was very surprised (well, not really...)

Movie posters have been exhibited in museums for decades already and in some cases, huge exhibits

the first one that comes to mind is the Museum of Modern Art in NYC.
They have displayed movie posters since I was a kid and everyone here should know that for decades (at least until 1993, the last time I was in NYC) the 3 sheet for Metropolis was proudly displayed above the staircase leading into the museum exhibits. You couldn't miss the poster if you had tried. I used to stand there looking at it and took note of many people who oohed & aahed walking beneath it. Someone once told me that they had a great exhibit of posters in the 1950s and another in the early 1960s which showed many top notch posters that cost a fortune today, inc a King Kong 3 sheet

The Smithsonian had a huge display of movie posters back in the 1980s and I heard tales of others previously.

about 10 years ago, a great exhibit of posters featuring dinosaurs started making the rounds. Sean sent me pics of the exhibit from a website that I have misplaced a link to. I believe this exhibit started in a museum North of L.A. and has made the rounds to other museums in Utah and back East. It may still be on display. There had to be at least 50 posters shown

in the past few years I am aware that several museum in the Los Angeles area have had numerous exhibits, some featuring posters that are owned by Ron Borst and others owned by Steve Olson

Of course, let us not forget that the Academy always has a display and is building a 290,000 sqft museum to exhibit all things movies from props and costumes to movie posters. Remember, the Academy is one of the most prolific buyers of rare posters in teh hobby

Museums have been showing this stuff for decades
