That’s a great ad Richard – coming back from the dead! There was definitely a love/hate relationship with British audiences but he was certainly very talented.
I have met quite a few collectors who have been equally if not more obsessive but it was good that he managed to save some of those lost BBC productions. Very interesting bloke, though I spent a lot of my earlier life unaware of that, and along with a lot of people disliking him intensely. Sad really, that he spent a lot of his career as a particularly oily gameshow host, and only started getting his reputation back later in life. I think he actually went way over the verge with obsessive, if any of us think we’ve got it bad…. Nice bit of work he did after he died: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiGNvXbofwY On 18 Jan 2015, at 02:16, JOHN REID Vintage Movie Memorabilia <johnr...@moviemem.com> wrote: Apart from being an accomplished Comedian and Game Show host, Bob Monkhouse was also a passionate collector of movie memorabilia. He amassed a truly gigantic collection of posters, scripts, films and other memorabilia. His passion for collecting verged on the obsessive. When he passed away, it was discovered that he had many films in his collection that had previously been thought lost including episodes of TV series that had been wiped by the BBC after screening. His collection proved to be of immense value, not only in monetary terms but also as an historical record of British TV and cinema.
