Hey all, I'm a newbie at this forum thingy and I'm VERY glad it's here.
Anyway, here goes:

One of my favorite characters is Dusenberry. (BTW, I'm going to use terms
from all over the place, so please bear with me.)

In terms of Keirsey and the Myers-Briggs test, Dusenberry was an ENFP, while
Phaedrus is an INTP. For any of you who have never heard of this
classification scheme, go to Keirsey.com and read to your brain's content.

PG 36
"Most important, Phaedrus seemed to have a very analytical mind (NT).
'That's what I don't have,' Dusenberry (the NF) had said. 'I know volumes
about these people but I can't structure it. I just don't have that kind of
mind.'"

Dusenberry loves talking with people for hours at length (ENF) and is
variable enough (P and DQ) to ingest some peyote. He also disregards the
other teachers (J and SQ) and does whatever he wants.

I know somewhere else in Lila, Phaedrus goes on to comment that he tries to
befriend the Indians and gets nowhere because he doesn't know how to do
small talk. (I)

Dusenberry is an awesome character because I've been thinking about how
things get into the world. (If I digress, I'm sorry.)

SJ<---SP

This, to me, is how anything humans do gets into the world.

First, you intuitively know that something feels wrong with the world.
SJ----->NF

Then you think about how to fix it.
NF----->NT

Then you apply it to the real world.
NT----->SP

Then you keep doing whatever it is you're doing (aka attach it to SQ)
SP----->SJ

Repeat

Phaedrus says that Dusenberry would "pour hours and hours of information
about American Indians into Phaedrus' ears."

Dusenberry (NF) felt that there was something wrong but he didn't know how
to fix it, so he gave all his data to Phaedrus (NT) and Phaedrus thought
about it and now we have this book.

That's about it for now. I'm trying to combine MOQ with a bunch of other
theories right now. Sorry if I didn't limit myself enough. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Matt Coughlan
