I, too am new to the MF list, and have been observing, waiting to see where to jump in. Sam has some good ideas. Having an opportunity to review previous dialogues would give me a flavor of what has happened before.
I am interested in how everyone's perception/understanding of Quality has affected their lives - their vocations, relationships, way of life, etc. If this list is to be terminated, it seems to me that it would be good to have some kind of "summing up" on the part of the members as to what Quality means to your lives, and what, if any benefit you have derived from the discussions. If the group does continue, I will commit to participating. I've subscribed to both MD and MF forums, but have contributed much more (almost exclusively) to the MD rather than the MF. There are a number of reasons for this. The first is simply that the topics that came up in the MD list were more interesting to me, and I felt I had something to say on them. The second is that the MD list moved much more quickly from topic to topic (more dynamic etc). The third is that, until recently, I haven't felt sufficiently 'qualified' to comment in the MF forum. It's much easier to dip your toe into the waters of the MD forum, rather than the heavy lifting of the MF. However I do think that there is scope for the MF list to run alongside the MD list, and I would be sorry to see it abandoned (we could think of it as lying dormant for a little while though?). In particular, I think that there are topics which would be better suited to the MF format. One is the 'tree' idea, setting out logically where different choices about the MoQ dictate certain consequences. But there are also MD inspired topics that really should be put through the MF process - for example recent thoughts about how the different levels interact, and what exactly IS the intellectual level. One related thought. Is there scope for somewhere on the site having a collection of 'seminal postings', or pointers to them in the archive, so that newbies can get a feel for what has been discussed before, and therefore (hopefully) not have to keep reinventing the wheel. (I'm thinking of things like the SOLAQI idea of Bo's). The essays serve some of the same purpose, but might in themselves be a bit daunting. I'm thinking of something like a 'newbies corner', with a few explanations of key things, pointers to key postings, and perhaps links to the biog sections so that they can get a better feel for who is who. (BTW how do we get a bio posted?) That's all for now, folks! Sam MOQ.org - http://www.moq.org MOQ.org - http://www.moq.org
