Thanks for the advice. I have also received in the meantime a message
from Chris Klingenberg advising me to check whether lda in R uses the
generalized inverse and to eventually adjust the threshold for deciding
whether a covariance matrix is singular or not. In addition, I may have
to adjust landmark number/sample size.
