Dear Mike,
I've been using Morphologika in XP on datasets of 1000-1500 specimens
with 86 landmarks without problems. It may happen that it crashes when
one tries to run multiple copies of the program (especially if using the
same datafile). With some versions of MS OS (like the Italian one),
there seems to be some issues with visual basics and the visualization
with surface rendering sometimes does not work properly. That is,
however, unrelated to sample size or the number of landmarks.
My experience with W7 is very limited. Last year I bought a machine with
W7: most of my old software did not run and I had problems with
Morphologika too. I was so fed up with this MS stuff that I installed
Linux Ubuntu. Using either Wine or Virtual Box (with XP) I can run
almost everything I run on XP machine. The OS is much more stable and
reliable and, even if it requires a bit of effort to get used to Linux
and make it work as one likes, it seems worth it (booting takes 1 minute
or less, shutting down a few seconds and removing USB memories is done
in a fraction of a second etc). I don't like everything in Ubuntu but
when my old laptop, which I am still mostly using and has got XP, dies,
it's likely that I'll completely shift to Linux.
Cheers
Andrea

I have some colleagues who are using Morphologica on Windows 7. They
have a rather large data set with 60 landmarks. After the 146th
specimen, the program apparently returns junk. Is the program able to
handle a larger data set than this, and if not is there any way around
the problem apart from reducing the number of landmarks?
Thanks, Mike
