Dear Morphometricians,

I am a PhD student at Humboldt University (Berlin, Germany) and is
working on systematic revision of southern African Mastomys (Rodentia:
Muridae). My project involves traditional and geometric morphometrics
techniques.

I am getting stuck on how to edit partial warps weight scores before
doing a Canonical variates analysis. Partial weight scores as produced
by the TpsRelw programme. Is there a simple tutorial available on
editing the weight matrix that is produced by this programme before I
can do a CVA? How do I divide the weight matrix according to the OTU's?

Dear Seth,
files produced by TPS programs can be considered as text files and
can, therefore, be edited with simple tools like Windows Notepad or be
imported in spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel or Openoffice
Calc.
The way you have to edit your matrix depends essentially on the
downstream application (that is, the software you will use for doing
the CVA): importing a matrix saved as NTS in a spreadsheet program
should be enough to prepare data for most "all-purpose" statistical
packages (like STATISTICA or SPSS). If you want to perform a CVA with
NTSYSpc you might find useful to save in NTS format and then use the
"Split NTS file" function of tpsUtil.
All the best
Carmelo
