Dear Bern,

Semilandmarks are useful when you do not have too many  landmarks, or when you have landmarks but you want to cover for example the shape of an outline that is curve and you don’t have an anatomic point where to select a landmark.

Personally I have never used them because I understand they should not be assumed to behave mathematically under the same principles as landmarks.

So, I would suggest that if you are just starting to do GM analysis stick first to landmarks.

Hope it helps,

Claudia

Hey guys,

sorry for asking such a basic question, however, I have to admit that I don´t understand what semilandmarks are there for.

Why should I use semilandmarks when I can use real landmarks as well? - I have the feeling that I miss an important point there.

Can somebody tell me what makes semilandmarks important and when it is reccomended to use them?

Best wishes and thanks in advance,

Bernd
