Hi all, I'm looking for any recommendations for "binding agents" that are useful for holding fossil specimens for morphometric and laser scanning purposes. I've used art putty in the past, but many have oils that stain the specimens, or stick within tiny pores. I've heard some use "sticky putty" or 3M double-sided tape with some success. Ideally we want something that is a strong bond so that we can move the stage with the specimen on it, but won't leave any residue on the specimen. The fossils tend to be fist sized or smaller (Paleozoic invertebrates mostly), but can sometimes have some mass to them.
Do any of you have any other recommendations or experiences?
