Sue - When I got my Masters in Reading, I was fortunate to have Kathy Ganske as one of my professors. At the time, she was using a text call Words Their Way. Since that time, she has published several books on word study herself. She is extremely knowledgeable and I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to seriously consider her program. She follows a thinking that spelling is developmental - like a guided reading group using leveled texts. During my time with her, I taught 6th grade and had to use the program for several months as my final project. My kids fell within 3 of the 4 spelling categories. Not only did I see progress, but my kids actually loved it. While I worked with one group, the other kids were busy with activities that connected to their "words".
