I'm not sure what grade you teach, but there is a powerful quote in the little fiction book The Education of Little Tree regarding the trail of tears that really allows you to see and feel what must have been experienced. The book is more for you as teachers or probably 8th grade on up. I used it in a 9th grade class. However, I think you could use the 2 or 3 pages describing the trail of tears with younger students. My book is at home, or I would give you more info. It's a great quick read, - humorous at times but powerful. Check it out for your Christmas break reading.
