The most fun ones I know of that middle schoolers love are Joy
Mosoff's books. They both have over 50 topics that make for so much
fun teaching non-fiction. The topics definitely capture the kid's
interest and present correct scientific and historical information
at the same time. You'll have lots and lots of fun with them.

Oh Yuck! The Encylclopedia of Everything Nasty This has all kinds
of topics like bacteria, bugs, burping, body odor, mummines, scabs,
toilets. It actually has some very scientific info in a really
delightful fun presentation.

Oh Yikes! History's Grossest, Wackiest Moments. - Topics like Lewis
and Clark: A Tale- and a Trail - of Laxatives,
Killer Kings, Miserable Medicines like mashed lizard eyeballs,
gladiators, prisons and punishments, Horrible Henry and His Seven
Dead Wives.
