Think-alouds are often done during read-alouds. A think-aloud is when the teacher actually models what she is thinking. For example, the teacher might say: " As I read this sentence, I'm thinking that the girl must be disappointed because the story says she is pouting, and she wasn't able to go to the park with her friends. Even though the story didn't say she was disappointed, I know when children pout, and they aren't included, they can feel disappointed. This is called making an inference."
