Maybe that girl doesn't know how to get started and could use some sentence stems to start her off or maybe she could be your partner a few times to turn and talk. You could even practice with her beforehand and do a little fish bowl where others could say what they noticed when you two turned and talked??? Just a few ideas. Hi Ginger and others... I'd like to hear how you would deal with a situation I had that is related to what Ginger wrote (below). I tried to encourage a student by showing her how other students were doing a certain task. She became very defensive and told me that I should not compare her to other students. Her mother then talked to me, saying that I didn't like the daughter and that was why I was "picking on her." What exactly (I need a script here) do you say to show how others are doing a good job on something? Thanks!
