At our school many teachers get parents involved in goal setting from the start
too, by scheduling getting to know you conferences the first two weeks of
school. In this conference the parents inform us of their child's strengths and
needs, and their hopes for their child for the year. This provides a great
start to open communication and team work and each conference is only about 10
minutes long, as we as teachers have nothing to share at that point. This
conference does not involve the students, but within the first few weeks we
also have in class goal setting conferences with the kids, where their parents
goals can be reviewed and possibly incorporated. If anyone wants any more info,
I can send it after I return home in mid Aug.
