Our school system uses the Collins type writing program.? A type 1 (brainstorming) response can help you evaluate what kids know as well as give everyone a chance. Here is how it goes: you pose a question and students? jot down on paper as many ideas that they can gather in a short time-??( spelling is not an issue-it's just getting down ideas in a designated short timed period). Teacher can walk around and casually look over students' responses and then ask for volunteers to share responses .? This way everyone gets a chance, the yteacher is able to see who needs further support?and those that lack background knowledge learn from their peers.
