One of the best resources I found for non-fiction text to connect text to world is National Geographic. Their first grade edition is thematic so it covers one topic unlike the older grade versions. It is really worth looking into. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of elisa kifer Sent: Tuesday, September 09, 2008 4:33 PM To: Mosaic: A Reading Comprehension Strategies Email Group Subject: Re: [MOSAIC] Text to World
I teach 3rd grade, so a great author for that age group is Eve Bunting. I also use articles from Scholastic News and Time for Kids. What better way to intro. t-to-w than using actual current events. I've heard you can use newspapers, but the text is too hard for my little ones, that's why I like the 2 resources I just mentioned.
