Wow! Where do you start with Patricia Polacco. They are all so fabulous! My all time favorite is The Bee Tree. Then Thank you Mr. Falker (caution: this one will bring you to tears), Chicken Sunday, Mrs. Mack, Picnic at Mudsock Meadow, Thunder Cake, and When Lightening Comes In a Jar. All of these make great read alouds--discussing vocabulary, strategies, etc. I use The Bee Tree to introduce my classroom library and Thank you Mr. Falker to talk about how we are all different and each subject in school is going to have strengths and weaknesses for all of us. I don't think Patricia Polacco's books are the best for a classroom library in second grade since there are so many rich topics and incredible vocabulary words--the teaching moments are too precious.
