I am reading Classroom Management that Works: Research-Based Strategies for Every Teacher. At first I thought some of it didn't seemed to be reaching just to make it sound different. but as I think about my own classroom I can see the logic of it. One phrase he uses is the mindset of withitness. Withitness is maintaining or heightening your awareness of the actions of students in your classes. One action that is an example of withitness to periodically and systematically scanor walk around the classroom, noting the behaviors of individual students or groups of students, look for problems that are about to happen, make eye contact with students, if it doesn't work move towards that student, if that doesn't work say something to the student in private. sounds like a great teacher to me.

Two great resources that I have used for our bookroom are:
The Booksource (they have a catalog just with reading comprehension strategies)
www.booksource.com

Schoolwide, Inc @ www.schoolwideonline.com

You can order catalogs from both.

Hello All,

Our school librarian will be ordering books for our library and I'm excited
because I plan on giving her a list of book titles to buy!

A few years back, I gave her a list with many titles for strategies based on the old Mosaic book, so many of those titles are in our library. I don't have the new edition (yet), but anticipate getting it soon. BUT--the book order will
happen before that.

My question is, is there a new updated book list for the strategies in the new
edition? And does anybody have a copy of it handy (emailable)?

TIA,
Liza

Hello,

I don't have my copy of the 1st edition with me, but as a matter of fact, I'm in the process of reading the 2nd edition. I plan to finish it today.
Hopefully, the following list does not have too many repeated titles.

Just Me and My Baysitter by Mercer Mayer
Remember by Toni Morrison

A Drop of Water by Walter Wick

Keeping Katherine by Susan Zimmermann

Guns, Germs, Steel by jared Diamond

What Really Matters for Struggling Readers: Designing Research-Based Programs by Richard Allington

When Kids Can't Read, What Teachers Can Do by Kyleen Beers

Adolescent Literacy: Turning Promise into Practice by Kyleen Beers, Linda Reif, and Robert Probst, eds.

Writing Through the Tween Years by Bruce Morgan

I Read It, But I Don't Get It by Cris Tovani

The above represents some of the titles mentioned. Hopefully you'll find it helpful.

In addition, I've just purchase To Understand , which is Ellin Keene Oliver's new book. After skimming through the pages, I can tell you that it promises to be a masterpiece.

Have a great day!

I forwarded your question to the owner of the list but in forwarding it I
got an error message from your email. It says that (reason: 550 Your
email has been blocked by Wautoma Area School District.) so you might
want to check with your school district about the error messages. Good
luck!
