One book that is effective in helping students think about biomes and
typical animal interaction is *Owen & Mzee: The True Story of a Remarkable
Friendship*, written by Isabella Hatkoff. Another book that is great to
incorporate science into winter activiteis is* Snowflake Bentley* by
Jacqueline Briggs Martin. Here is a website with recommended trade books
that happened to mention the Snowflake book at the start is
http://www.acs.ucalgary.ca/~dkbrown/nsta99.html.
