Forgive the typo, I certainly know it is ASHLOCK, that is all I hear lately.
My questions:
-Systematic phonics instruction can make learning to read more difficult for many children. AND this is happening with students who are reading. This going to help them jwith multisyllabic words they will encounter in upper grades when they are required to read social studies, science, content texts. There isn't much time for actual reading with H&M and now the RTI. So...devoting these large chunks of time to DI and these lesson maps does not make sense to me.
Where is the balance?
But then, I have not had any training, yet.

My concerns:

The comments I have heard seem to support the hope in this being the "magic bullet". Everyone who has had this training has said how wonderful it is. I believe most of the "Literacy Specialists" I have spoken with have never taught primary children the joy of reading and writing, so that could be on of the issues. Another might be the gang mentality. I have heard statements about this woman being brilliant and so very much admired. Many of our new teachers have not had the reading process and theory Lori refers to, so they believe (want to believe) this is the answer.

I am curious how many districts have bought this method and would appreciate those who have had training to please share your insights.

Thank you.

Does anyone have experience with the Aslock Direct Instruction Lesson Maps? Our school district has made a huge commitment to this for Title 1 schools. Grades 1-6.
I have not received the training, but I have questions and concerns.
