Truman Capote has a lovely memoir with captivating word choice--awesome for visualization and/or part of a unit on memoir. It is called A Christmas Memory and has been published as a picture book as well as in a more age appropriate format. It is tender, loving and entirely appropriate for 7th grade. My husband's kids are reading it now.
