Hello all-we'd like to add some information and, we hope, helpful links
to your LLI discussion. The different color LLI systems are designed
with a particular grade (age) student in mind, but can be used with
other grades as needed. There is no difference in difficulty between
books of the same level in different color systems-it's just that the
subject matter and treatment are age-appropriate.

It is true that the Orange, Green, and Blue systems include
black-and-white take-home "little" books intended for students to keep
(multi-packs <http://www.heinemann.com/products/E02107.aspx> are
available <http://www.heinemann.com/products/E02108.aspx> to replenish
<http://www.heinemann.com/products/E02109.aspx> ), while the upper level
systems include not-so-little full-color books intended to be taken home
and returned, more like library books. Replacements of the full-color
books are also available for all systems, but their prices don't lend
themselves as well to being given away.
