I think you have to set
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=<where is .so file is>
export INCLUDE_PATH=<where the .h file is>

I'm using gcc-4.7.1, so I'm not sure why the unit test is
complaining about not finding version 3.4.20 of libstdc++.
