Assistant Professor Computational Linguistics with Specialization in Speech Processing Department of Linguistics University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a tenure-track position in Computational Linguistics with specialization in Speech Processing at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will be a full-time, nine-month position. The target start date of appointment is August 16, 2019. Salary is competitive. Ph.D. in Linguistics, Computer Science, or a related field, is required. Candidates with superior qualifications who will complete all the Ph.D. requirements within the first appointment year may be appointed at the rank of Instructor. After the Ph.D. requirement is met, the appointment will be changed to Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of excellence in independent research, be highly qualified for undergraduate and graduate teaching, and demonstrate the potential to attract external funding. We are particularly interested in scholars active in the areas of speech and language processing, deep learning, machine learning, with enough supplementary background in linguistics or phonetics to engage with Linguistics colleagues in collaborative initiatives and to help train students in the LING MA, PhD, and BA programs, in addition to the BS in Computer Science & Linguistics (CS+LING) and Master of Science in Speech and Language Processing Technologies (MS-SLPT) programs. An interest in multilingual speech processing is preferred. The ideal candidate will complement and build on existing strengths within the department, and will be eager to interact with students and faculty from the broader linguistics and language processing community at the University of Illinois.
