The mplayer breakups are due to using udp. Motion has an option to use tcp
if your camera can support it. I need to use tcp on mine to keep a clean
feed.

The initial post shows that the camera is reporting 1280x720, but your
config was a different size. It's possible that the netcam stuff will
adjust the size, but the time lapse uses the config size. I would make the
config match the camera and see what happens to the time lapse stuff.

Thank you both for the responses. Please review this video in VLC and
DragonPlayer (for those with KDE):

http://www.javasystemsolutions.com/motion.avi

It was taken using the time lapse feature:

ffmpeg_timelapse 15

with the following settings on the thread:

text_left Drive
netcam_url rtsp://[email protected]:554/0
target_dir /tmp
stream_port 9002
threshold 3000
netcam_keepalive force
width 1280
height 720
lightswitch 50
minimum_motion_frames 2

You should see that DragonPlayer crashes after a while, and VLC only
displays the top left hand quarter of the image.

Curiously, I have ffmeg set to ogg, which works for videos recorded by
alerts but not on time lapse:

ffmpeg_video_codec ogg

Are there any VLC experts out there? I've written this to solve the time
lapse problem:

cvlc rtsp://192.168.0.x:554/11 --rtsp-user xx --rtsp-pwd xx --sout
'#transcode{vcodec=jpeg,vb=4000,fps=10}:std{access=http{mime=multipart/x-mixed-replace;boundary=--7b3cc56e5f51db803f790dad720ed50a},mux=mpjpeg,dst=0.0.0.0:10000/go.mpg,delay=0}'
--no-audio

but it doesn't quite work, and I can't find a VLC option to record every
Xth frame, ie every 10 seconds.

I have no problems playing your sample video in VLC 3.0.0
