This is some gcc issue with detecting the architecture or something. I saw
this recently somewhere, possibly on this mailing list, but if you specify
the architecture in the gcc calls you can get past this. Something
like -march=armv8-a+crc based on a random google search.

I think I know where you read it. This is currently in the issue list
with the workaround on how to compile it.
https://github.com/Motion-Project/motion/issues/104 As of right now, we
do not know of anyway to identify the PI3 to automatically have the
configure script add the appropriate flags.
I have been informed that the deb packages worked for at least one user
on the PI3. Using the debs would be my preferred install method and a
much easier solution than trying to edit the makefile. The following
are all the deb files that were created during the patch work from last
year. Although you are only looking for the ARM version, I am copying
them all so that others are also aware of their existence. These will
be copied to the new project page when I can find an appropriate
location for them.
Use the gdebi application to install.

Hi
I?ve had a go at fixing this and believe I have a working solution; there?s two
commits here that fix both issues if anyone fancies trying them:
https://github.com/jogu/motion/commits/master
I tested them on a RPi3 and they pick the right cpu options, and I?ve tried on
my PC and I don?t appear to have caused any regression.
Cheers,
Joseph
