I had so-so luck with Motion on the Raspberry Pi 2. In the end I abandoned
the entire concept and went with a passive IR sensor that triggers the R.Pi
camera module. A tutorial how to set up motion detection with the PIR
sensor can be found here:;
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruits-raspberry-pi-lesson-12-sensing-movement/overview
I mount a directory shared to dropbox off my home Mac using sshfs and from
there I trigger the camera thusly (this was a very early Python script of
mine that hasn't been updated since and, yes, I know, it's ugly):
while True:
if io.input(pir_pin):
epoch_time = int(time.time())
# snap a picture
with picamera.PiCamera() as camera:
camera.resolution = (1024, 768)
camera.rotation = (180)
camera.start_preview()
# Camera warm-up time
time.sleep(2)
# get epoch time
epoch_time = int(time.time())
# convert epoch_time into a string
epoch_time = str(epoch_time)
filename_list = [epoch_time, "jpg"]
# print filename_list
capturename = '.'.join(filename_list)
# print capturename
camera.capture(capturename)
# print 'PIR ALARM! alarm tripped at', epoch_time, 'captured image
name is', capturename
