Hi Richard:

I use a proxy cgi script configured on my Apache web server to allow access to
the motion video
ports.

By using Apache web server, you can use the basic authentication capabilities
provided by Apache
Web Server to grant access to the cgi-bin application.

The cgi-bin application is called nph-mjprox and its use is described here:

http://www.lavrsen.dk/foswiki/bin/view/Motion/MjpegProxyGrab

I feel that putting a proxy between the entire internet and the motion video
port has worked
well for me for over 10 years and provides known good authentication provided
by Apache Web
Server. For information on how to set up password authentication, Google
"apache web server
password protect" and you'll get a ton of hits.

Thanks,

Jeff G.

Hi Jeff and others,

Is it possible to list out the steps one has to take in order to install
and run nph-mjprox from a webpage w/ and w/o the applet? (I think
applet depends on the browser if it is needed).

So far, I have it installed but straggling with the rest (cambozola
included).

I can't find any documentation or examples to follow. Everyone points to
the same link (http://www.lavrsen.dk/foswiki/bin/view/Motion/MjpegProxyGrab)
A detailed step by step walk through would be very much appreciated :) and
would be very helpful for people of my level.

Thank you in advance!

SG.

Thanks Jeff & others
I've found that MD5 digest does not work with Android cam viewers, fine from a
computer running
linux.
The one problem I think I find with loading Apache on a Raspberry clone,
actually a Odroid C2, 64
bit 1.8GHz beasty, is the overhead usage.
I not only use this little ARM computer to run motion but also use it as a TV
set top box running
Kodi, so it does get hammered. Motion peak use of CPU is 20% and Kodi 18%.
But the problem is although is an 8 core processor, resource sharing is not
brilliant, and there is
another IP camera to install.
I'll try it and see if I can get it to run
The app I'm using on my android phone is IP-cam-viewer, I only use it for
viewing nothing else.

thanks

I'm seeing this occasionally- motion thinks the whitest part of a camera's
image is motion. Here are samples:
http://tedder-motion.s3-website-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/wm/m/12-20170309111216.avi.webm
http://tedder-motion.s3-website-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/wm/m/13-20170309111526.avi.webm

I have switch filters and some other automatic stuff on but it's still
happening- any tips? The size of the motion detection is large enough that
I can't simply increase the "min pixels changed", and it seems strange to
mask the center of an image.

PS: getting back into the 'motion' world, I ran it a bunch in 2005-2007.
Now I can use s3 and elastic transcoder and wifi cameras, which is handy!
