Thank you very much for that excellent reply. Since it supports RTSP, I
think I'll take a chance on http://amazon.com/gp/product/B07H4PLZ9M/ as
it includes the PoE injector, unless anyone sees a
motion-contraindication for the item.

If the link is correct, that seems to be a very expensive PTZ camera
which is a different situation.? The typical POE camera I think most
people are using is fixed location and focus.? If you are looking for a
PTZ there is a lot of custom scripting required.

While Motion version 4.2.1 allows for setting up a set of custom scripts
to execute via the manual tracking type, it is still pretty basic.?
Prior Motion versions only did very specific PTZ models.

To get the PTZ to work (in order to justify the cost of that camera),
you will need to get from the company the url commands that invoke the
movement and zoom.? Some manufacturers have been reported to refuse to
release those so you'd have to wireshark the network to see them and
reverse engineer a script.? I also noted that it includes audio which
Motion does not support. (It is frequently illegal to just record audio
without you being actively listening)

Personally, I use the fixed focus/location ones from Aliexpress (5MP poe
is ~$45USD). Perhaps others with a PTZ can comment on their experiences.

And that ipcam has its own proprietary motion detection SW. Check the item
description and the manufacturer's site.
If the features are satisfying and worth the price for you, it could be a
good choice. (I don't have any experience with this manufacturer)
