This works for me with Amcrest cameras:
rtsp://username:[email protected]:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0
As I recall you change subtype=1 when you want to use the netcam_highres
feature in Motion, meaning monitor a lower-res feed from the camera but record
a higher-res feed.

Subject: [Motion-user] RTSP string for amcrest ip4m-1026
Hi,
I am trying to connect amcrest IP4M-1026 ip camera via RTSP.Unfortunately I can
not find the string for it.
I am able to view through VLC using this format rtsp://m.y.i.p:554/ RTSP/1.0
Any ideas?
Regards

The classic use of Motion for keeping cats at bay is "The Blender Defender".?
Sadly some of the video clips are now broken links:

Actually I solved it. Not quick, but dirty! I had to modify the source
code and I am not good in C programming. MrDave and Mr. Lavrsen would be
horrified, if they see, what I've done.
If anybody is interested, I would post the whole build story, but that's
a lot of work. So please be patient.
@Scott: Funny video! That's the reaction, I want to see from my
neighbors cat ;-)
Thanks for all your help.
Regards
Alex

You could fork the project on Github and upload your changes. Then
everybody could see your feature and maybe pull it
