Check motion.log, maybe you are editing the wrong config

I tried to restart a camera through the web ui and all works as expected.
Yes, you need to refresh the page after restart, because the web browser
does not do that automatically. But after a single refresh all works fine,
I can see the stream again
If you can reproduce the issue would be great to see the motion.log and/or
the screen recording

The browser should not ask the password for the same domain and port.
How do you access the cameras? How the URLs look like?
For: http://motion:8081, http://motion:8082, http://motion:8083 - it's
going to ask for every camera
But for http://motion:8081/1/stream, http://motion:8081/2/stream,
http://motion:8081/3/stream - should ask only once
