Sometimes the system is using it, just doesn't get reported. Another way
is to monitor Swap: if I understand things correctly Swap get used when
the system runs out of RAM.? Though don't get panicky when a bit of Swap
does get used; start looking for problems when too much Swap gets used
(one symptom is your system will slow down).

No experience with IP cameras as I'm using USB cameras with my Raspberry
Pi's (one camera per Pi, otherwise there is too much data for the USB
channel).? Some years back when I started with Motion I had the USB
cameras on an extension cable, one six foot extension cable for each
camera.? Periodic loss of video.? Ended up the extension cables were
faulty: swapped one to test, fixed that problem.? Later swapped out the
other; fixed!

Any possibility of a relation with camera view activity?? I seem to have
more issues when it is breezy out and the trees cast random shadows.

Dear Barry,
Many thanks for your help.
I am wondering if the issue is relating to the USB camera.
Today, Motion crashed several times, and then I removed that camera from
the config file, and since then there hasn't been an issue.
I am not convinced that is the issue, as Motion shouldn't crash due to a
camera.
Kind Regards,
Ian

Would you be able to send the full motion log with "-d 9" from the
most beginning, so it includes version and config values?
