Tonight there was skim ice and common mergansers on Lake Calhoun, a sure sign the lake is about to freeze over. City birders may want to get out tomorrow and take a last winter look at our gulls, ducks, and mergansers before the lake freezes tight. Chet Meyers Hennepin County
