Westskyline Hawkwatch, Duluth, MN. The flights this past week has been good with moderate raptor movement that=20 include daily flight of 650, 857, 402, 747, and 306 on 4/2, 4/4, 4/5, 4/6 an= d=20 4/7 respectifully. These total reflect the beginning of the Red-tailed Hawk= =20 movements which should continue through 20th or so of April. The flight will= =20 slow down the rest of the week do to weather condition not being favorable f= or=20 migration.
Other raptors of note were; an adult Red-shouldered Hawk on the 2nd and 6th,= =20 33 Rough-legged Hawks on the 4th along with 729 Red-tailed Hawks. Turkey=20 Vulture also began there migration, with the best flight thus far of 74 on t= he 6th=20 along with the season's first Ospreys(2). There were 69 Sharp-shinned hawk=20 counted on the 7th.=20 Non-raptors sighting included: 652 Bohemian Waxwings on the 2nd, Sandhill=20 Cranes on the 6th (4), 2 each on the 5th and 7th. Great Blue Heron (2) were=20= seen=20 on the 5th along with what is most likely the same Ist winter Iceland Gull=20 last seen on 24 March. On the 7th there was a flight of 500 + American Robin= s,=20 lots of juncos and Fox Sparrow which included 25 in my yard with a few Tree=20= and=20 a Song Sparrow and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker.
