I just got back from leading a MOU trip in the Frontenac area. The = weather was warm and migration was in full swing! We birded Villa Marie, = Sandy Pt. and Hok Si La Park. I led a group of 20 birders to these areas = and we had a great time! I thank Mark Ochs and Ron Erpelding for = spotting a lot of the birds!! We saw a total of 100 species in 7 hours = of birding. The group saw 20 species of warblers for the day! Here's the highlights of the MOU trip: Virginia Rail: Sandy Pt. * St. Paul Audubon Society found the rails = originally and we thank them for sharing thier sightings Sora Rail: Sandy Pt. Solitary Sandpipers: Several birds at Sandy Pt.=20 Caspian Terns: Lake Pepin Barred Owl: Calling at Hok Si La Park 7 species of Woodpeckers! Olive-sided Flycatcher: Marshy area along the road leading you to the = Villa Marie. Yellow-throated Vireo Blue-headed Vireo Marsh Wren at Sandy Pt. 20 Species of Warblers (Blue-winged, Golden-winged, Tenn - a lot!, = Orange-cr, Nashville, Parula, Yellow, Cape May, Yellow-rumped, Blk-thr. = Green, Blackburnian, Palm, Bay-breasted, Blackpoll, Black & White, = Redstart, Ovenbird, N. Waterthrush, C. Yellowthroat, and Wilson's) Our MOU group in the morning hours birded a lot with the St. Paul = Audubon Society. I have some nice pictures of all of us at the end of = Sandy Pt. looking at the rails. (50 birders scanning at the rails) Other = sightings include a Stripe Skunk in the back field of the Villa Marie, = spring flowers in full bloom in the woods, Bald Eagle nest with young at = Sandy Pt. Some how we escaped the rains and had a nice warm afternoon = and a lot of laughs!
