Judith: My guess is that you might have to look at 2 devices. An ipod works great for playing bird songs and there are small powerful speakers available. If fact, a company called BirdJam actually sells preconfigured Ipods that are loaded with bird songs from the Stokes CDs (or you can buy their software to load it yourself). Once loaded, the IPod also includes a large number of useful playlists that can help you learn the songs. A link to their website is: http://www.birdjam.com/. BirdJam also sells other accessories including speakers. You can also find compact speakers by doing a search on the web. Make sure that you get speakers that include their own batteries. Although heavier, you need additional power to get the volume that you are looking for. I am sure others can answer your questions about recording bird songs better than I can. I would like to be able to play and record bird songs in the field. In checking with Best Buy, there weren't any iPod type devices that had a speaker loud enough to project a distance in the field. Can anyone recommend a device or combination of devices (preferably small!) that could be used for both recording bird songs and playing back bird songs in the field? Any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated!
