Late yesterday afternoon, around 6-6:30, there was a Trumpeter Swan on Silver Lake in Virginia. The lake cools our power plant so stays partly open all winter, and is now almost all open. It was the first swan I have seen in my 7 years here. Yesterday was also the first day I saw Canada Geese there, and I believe at least one Cackling, and the first gulls, which I didn't look at closely because I was having more fun watching the swan.
