I went canoeing with the National Park Service along the Vermillion River Bottoms and the birding was fantastic! Near Ravenna Trail and 200th St. we came upon a small flock of prothonotary warblers--at least six that were easy to see even without binoculars. Other birds include:
Sandhill Crane Bald Eagles Solitary Sandpipers Common Nighthawks (a flock of about 8) Caspian Terns (at least 15) Wild Turkey Northern Parula Yellow Warbler Chestnut-sided Warbler Black-throated Blue Warbler Yellow-rumped Warbler Bay-breasted Warbler Prothonotary Warbler Ovenbird Northern Waterthrush Common Yellowthroat There was also a disturbing patch where someone had strung up about five dead crows in the trees, but other than that, it was a fantastic way to enjoy spring migration. If you have some waterproof binos and a canoe or kayak, I'd get out there. Sharon Stiteler www.birdchick.com Minneapolis, MN -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
