The amount of exposed mud at the Purgatory Creek wetlands in Eden Prairie has increased greatly over the past few days, attracting modest numbers of shorebirds. Among the species present during visits the past two evenings: Stilt Sandpiper (4) Wednesday Baird's Sandpiper (5) Wednesday Wilson's Phalarope (2) Wednesday Red-necked Phalarope (1) Thursday Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Pectoral Sandpiper - Thursday Semipalmated Plover, Killdeer, Spotted Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper (50) and Semipalmated Sandpiper present both evenings. Most of these birds are frequenting mudflats well into the wetland, requiring a scope, although a few birds are near the blind.
