Hey birders!

I headed to the Cobb River WPA this afternoon with one of my students to look
for Snow Trillium. There were many buds open so Spring is now officially here!
We also came across a couple of early Red-sided Garter Snakes, a Mourning
Cloak, and another anglewing (for you lepidopterists out there).

First of the year birds today: Winter Wren, Greater Scaup, Brown-headed
Cowbird, Belted Kingfisher, Wilson's Snipe, and Greater Yellowlegs.

As expected the shorebird areas at Cobb River WPA have started to produce (a
little). We had several Wilson's Snipe around the WPA and a single Greater
Yellowlegs on the east side of CR16. There were also hundreds of shovelers,
Mallards, and other dabblers to look at.

One last note: I found my first Pine Siskin nest on the Bethany Lutheran
College campus (I think there should be at least two more) for the Spring. I
should have started looking in the same tree as last year! Same tree but at 6'
up instead of 15' and on the north side instead of the south side. God bless
those vocal youngsters!

Happy birding!
