Forgot to mention that 4 male Purple Finches turned up here on Saturday. Did not see any more of these until this morning, when 3 males and 2 females invaded the sunflower seed feeder.

We still have Common Redpolls, maybe 3 or 4 at a time, not 50; and after not seeing any for over a week, more Pine Siskins. These are all singing, but not behaving as pairs. Purple finch song is glorious, wish the Fox sparrows would chime in.

Yesterday we saw one Hoary Redpoll, also had a couple last week. Wondered if this was unusually late for the species, but Bob Janssen's "Birds in Minnesota" lists a May 11 occurence in Duluth. A friend reported a small flock of Nighthawks moving north early this morning. Hope they can find some bugs this early. Less snow further northeast along the shore, however.
