Just returned from seeing family & friends in Madison, WI (second son sworn in as county deputy) - easy to forget that sometimes the best post-migration bird in a suburban yard might be a cardinal.

Returned today, only had time for a short late lunch walk at Pioneer Park here in Princeton. However, a singing Wood Thrush, calling Yellow-billed Cuckoo and flyaway Barred Owl only serve to remind me how blessed I am to live in central Minnesota.

Easy to forget until one leaves.

PS For any Wisconsin readers, this was not intended as a slam against Madison! Still have more county birds in that area than I do in Sherburne or Mille Lacs.
