Yesterday afternoon, I saw an adult male Orchard Oriole feeding three recently fledged young in the Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary, which is just east of downtown St. Paul. The birds were near the base of the bluff in the southeastern part of the sanctuary. The location is not in a BBA priority block. It was near a limestone slab in the path that forms a bridge over a small stream.
My wife does not usually go birding with me, but came along yesterday because I presented it as a biking outing. Paying more attention to the Orchard Orioles than to her footing, she fell off of the slab, crashing onto the rocks three and five feet below. She suffered scrapes, bruises, a sprained wrist, a dent in her bike helmet (fortunately!), and some moments of panic, but no lasting damage. I expect no increase in joint birding outings.
