As the family slept in, I went out this morning on my sixteen annual Christmas
morning bog trek. As usual I drove the Sax Zim bog. The weather was cold but
beautiful and the birding was excellant. I found 17 species:

Bald Eagle (4)
Rough-legged Hawks (3) - all light morphs
Turkey (1) this is the first for me in the bog
Hawk Owl (1) near the lake on Stone Lake Road
Downy WP
Hairy WP
Blue Jay
Gray Jay (at least 7)
Crow (plentiful)
Ravens (more than crows)
BC Chickadee
Boreal Chickadee (2 or 3) First time I have seen these in more than one
location. One was visiting the feeders on Admiral Road. The other(s?) were
along Arkola.
RB Nuthatch
Starling
Snow Bunting (along Hwy 7)
Pine Grosbeak (4)
White-winged Crossbill (1) along Arkola

Tracks: deer (more than I may have ever seen there), Moose (on Admiral Rd
passing the feeders), Martin, both grouse, many mini-rodants, fox, snow-shoe
hare, but no wolf!

I received a report of 3 Great Gray's and a Red-bellied Woodpecker north of
Floodwood along Strebel (sp?) during the second week of deer hunting
(November).
