Yesterday at just after 6:00 PM, my wife and I saw a pair of Osprey checking
out the mill ponds in Little Canada.  They both flew low over the southmost
pond just above our heads; one bird continued southwest along the creek, but
the other circled back and remained at the ponds for the half-hour or so of our
visit.  It sat high in the trees in three or four different locations as if
evaluating the place's suitability for a longer-term situation.  Took one
sortie across Edgerton to fly over Lake Gervais.  Probably just a "lookie-loo",
though, as there probably isn't an ideal site for a nest in the park.

The city water tower is just south of the park, however.  I'm not sure if a
nest could be built on it or not.

Other birds at the ponds yesterday included Hooded Merganser pair, two Wood
Duck pairs, Hermit Thrush, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Belted Kingfisher, Song
Sparrow, Eastern Phoebe, and two Great Blue Herons.  (First of year there this
week: Great Egret, Brown Creeper, and Northern Flicker.)
