Just over a month to go until the Christmas Bird Count and you are probably
wondering whether any of the recently reported rare birds in the state have
ever been seen on the CBC.

Cassin's Kingbird - of course not it was a first state record
Clark's Nutcracker - just once. 1972 in Excelsior
Yellow-breasted Chat - Nope
Mountain Bluebird - thrice 1982 in Grand Marais, 1984 in Duluth, 2007 in
Grand Marais (count week)
Townsend's Solitaire - 56 times in 30 locations
White-rumped Sandpiper - Nope
Black-legged Kittiwake - twice 2005 in Bloomington, 2011 in Duluth
White-winged Dove - just once 2009 in Bloomington

Important News! this year the National Audubon Society has discontinued it's
$5 participation fee and so the CBC is FREE. Donations are accepted to
defray the costs on the Audubon website
(http://birds.audubon.org/christmas-bird-count)
